		<description>Interesting statement, yeah. Among other places she visited on this trip, Asma came to J&#38;K as well. We helped arrange some meetings for her in Jammu, where I'm based at the moment. Like most Pakistani liberals she loves India's secular/democratic moorings. I was, therefore, somewhat worried that she might not notice some obvious failings of our system. Am glad she did. She was also perceptive enough to look at J&#38;K somewhat dispassionately, go beyond the usual liberal/progressive rhetoric of oppression etc. and talk about how this oppression has been perpetuated, as well as experienced, differently by different ppl. So yup, the statement does give us 'progressives' some food for thought...</description>
