Dear Achilles, thanks very much for getting in touch and for requesting permission for use of the DNA photograph. However, as mentioned in the post, the photograph is taken by Dr. Hsien-Hsien Lei, who can be contacted at www.eyeondna.com for her permission.

All the best for your work, anasuya

Dear Anasuya :

I am a graduae student from Taiwan. Recently I have surfed the website

to search for some information about the DNA structure and function.

Much to my surprise, I accidently log on to your website and see the

picture of 3-D giant double helix structure used for children pleasure. Due to the fact that I am writing a

scientific article discussing the RNA and DNA structure, I need the interesting illustration

for decoration. Luckily, the picture on your website is really to my liking.

Therefore, I am supposed to get your oral / e-mail permission to cite your illustration. Your permission and attention to this matter will be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Achilles Kuo

Thanks for this, Charles. It's a very interesting article. I agree entirely with its debunking of IQ as an adequate indicator of 'intelligence', and with its racial/racist implications. But I'm a bit wary that it seems to go on to undermine that debunking by looking at communities again, though in this case to say that African or black immigrants in the US or UK are likely to have IQs above that of their white counterparts.

Still, it's valuable to have research such as this as a counterpoint to the more malicious kind - if sheer common sense wasn't enough! - so thanks again.

Here is an article that absolutely debunks everything said by Watson.

Hey thanks, black mamba! Yes, that story has always appalled me, and this latest from Watson just drew fire. The textbooks need a rewrite.

ah! glad you wrote about this. Watson was in SF promoting his book. In one NPR interview on forum he claimed Franklin wasn't bright enough to figure out the double helix, Crick was - that was his justification for them taking all the credit. I was appalled.
